Kathleen - Elementary Teacher
I am so excited to be joining the LWTB School community! I am new to the area and this will be my first year teaching here in Raleigh. I love teaching special education and working towards individualizing your child’s education so that we can achieve his/her goals and hopefully beyond.
I was born in Newfoundland, Canada, which is a bit cold for me now! I have a large family (6 brothers and sisters!), my mom and step-dad live in Washington D.C. and my dad and step-mom live in Morgantown, WV.
My undergraduate degree is in Elementary Education and I hold a Master’s degree in Special Education, both from West Virginia University. During my Master’s degree program my studies had an emphasis on Autism and behavior modification and I earned certifications in Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Behavior Disorders (BD), Other Health Impairment (OHI) and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD). I previously taught for two years in a special education classroom in WV.
I love teaching and working to find what works best to meet the needs of each of my students, I don’t believe in a one size fits all approach. I also firmly believe that with a lot of hard work and creativity we can meet the needs of all of my students and together we can succeed.
